No one questions why one flower grows straight up and another bends sideways, why one is pink and another—yellow, why one tree sprawls, yet another stays close to the ground. Nature is impartial, her creations are unique, and so are we. We are all unique in our identities, our bodies and our minds.
The objective of the project “This is Me. I am Unique.” is to encourage audiences to re-examine their thoughts and feelings about people with disabilities through a physical multimedia installation. We do this by using the concept of a seed. Many development and physiological disabilities are determined at the seed stage. Seed is a sacred symbol. It symbolizes conception, growth, future. No one seed is like another, each is different, each is unique.
Why are some lives valued more than others? What do we see when we look at ourselves or at other people? This project explores these questions and challenges assumptions about disability and our preconceived notions about what makes us different.
